Our opinion: Bills to open police disciplinary records and compensate citizens who sue governments illegally withholding public information should become law. It’s about accountable government. What started 41 years ago as a sensible-sounding bill to keep overly zealous criminal defense lawyers from using police officers’ personnel files against them has in recent years been perverted.
